Beads for Needs Project
After only a few weeks of sales, Journey Productions "Beads for Needs" Project raised more than $8,000 toward the construction funds for the Kunyuk Girls' School. "Beads for Needs" was formed when Liz Walker, Joan Kraus, Maya Balle, and Yaimani Rivera collaborated after a Viewing and Community Conversation of A GLORY FROM THE GOD at the Hellenic Center in Watertown. Joan, a resident of Watertown, created handcrafted Glory Angel lapel pins to sell at the event. Liz had created a few trading bead bracelets after learning that the genocidal war in Sudan forced many women to stop creating their own crafts. The bracelets are made from African trade beads, acrylics and donated junk jewelry as a reminder that many people in Sudan use whatever they can find to survive. "Beads for Needs" now includes a dozen local craftspeople who meet regularly to create hundreds of bracelets. The bracelets are available at special engagements and the proceeds are donated to the Kunyuk School for Girls Construction Project.

India's Dance for Sudan's Education
On April 13, 2008, two disparate cultures met in beauty and peace at the Mass College for Arts Auditorium, when the critically acclaimed Triveni Dance Ensemble presented a dance concert "Divine Rhythms... the Joyful Spirituality of Indian Dance" as a benefit for the Kunyuk Girls' School in Akon Sudan. The Triveni ensemble, directed by Neena Gulati preserves India's 5000 year old tradition of temple dancers who educated and entertained communities with this highly formalized choreography of hand gestures, facial expressions and sculpturesque body postures. The highlight of the sold out concert was a moving performance to poetry from the film A GLORY FROM THE GOD. The concert raised $5000 for the Kunyuk School for Girls.
